Do I need cloud infrastructure or is shared hosting enough?

Short answer

Shared hosting is fine for a brochure site with modest traffic. Move to a VPS or cloud when you run server-side code, need a database you control, handle sensitive data, or cannot afford downtime during traffic spikes. The trigger is usually compliance or reliability, not raw traffic.

Teams often assume they need Kubernetes when a single well-configured VPS would serve their traffic for years at a fraction of the cost and complexity.

The genuine reasons to move up: you need control over the runtime, you have compliance obligations that require isolation and audit logs, you need automated backups and failover, or an outage costs real money.

Our default for a growing business is a properly configured VPS with automated deploys, monitoring and backups — then scale to managed cloud services when a specific constraint forces it, not in anticipation.
